Firefighters battled some of the largest fires in California’s history in 2020's fire season.
A fleet of specially equipped firefighting aircraft that can steer or contain a fire’s perimeter helped fire crews on the ground. Reuters used flight tracking data to show how the types of aircraft operate, from specially converted passenger jets to aircraft that can scoop water from the surface of a lake.
