The State of Democracy Around the World by University of Massachusetts Amherst

Less than half the world lives in a democracy. 
Democracy is on retreat globally as it suffered more reversals in 2021 based on EIU'S Democracy Index 2021 report. The percentage of the world's population living under some sort of democracy tumbled well below 50%. The authoritarian regimes gained ground with more than one-third of the world's population under this regime type. This visualization explores the state of democracy for the nations over the past 10 years.
