Nunak by Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design

The concept Nunak (Inuktitut: homeland) describes the idea of a multimedia exhibition, which utilizes visitor’s senses and allows them to experience the changing habitat of the Arctic. In order to create a greater awareness of this topic in people’s everyday lives, the exhibition will be shown in a temporary building in urban city centers. Inside the building there is a three-dimensional projection object in the form of an iceberg as well as an interactive poster. Both mediums allow visitors to approach the different aspects of the changes in land, ocean and society, individually. The main focus of the concept is based on data which shows the change of sea ice and was collected from the Alfred-Wegener-Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Accompanying the exhibition, tall buildings will be projected with a film showing the calving of an Arctic glacier. This way the drastic change of the Arctic will be visible into one‘s own, closer environment. It also represents, in the figurative sense,
the “collapse” of one‘s own habitat.
