Winning The Archibald Prize by Kim Ly Scott

This visualisation started off as an analysis to see who were the winners past and present for Australia’s most prestigious portrait prize, the Archibald Prize. But as I gathered and analysed the data, I saw the lack of diversity in winners - it was overwhelmingly Caucasian men winning.

This got me thinking. As a woman of colour, my chances of winning the Archibald Prize is very low. And this revelation led me to examine other areas in the art world to see whether lack of diversity was common. And what I found out was, yes, lack of diversity is prevalent in the art world. This visualisation aims to shed a light on that.
