Dubai's Ease of Doing Business by arohib

A lot of people move to Dubai, an emirate in United Arab Emirates, to start their own business and live the entrepreneurial life, given the relatively low corporate tax rates as well as the 0% tax on income. Given that caveat, I decided to look at Dubai's ranking in the Ease of Doing Business Index over the course of 15 years.

This data visualization was created using 135 data points, looking at data for 15 years. The Ease of Doing Business Index, developed by The World Bank, looks at a country’s business regulatory environment and several variables such as paying taxes, getting credit, and resolving insolvency, all of which measure overarching indicators such as opening a business, getting a location, accessing finance, dealing with day-to-day operations and operating in a secure business environment. 

Looking at Dubai’s performance in the Ease of Doing Business ranking shows us that over the years, there has been a steady improvement in the ranking and in the variables. In 2006, Dubai ranked at 68 out of 155 economies and in 2020, Dubai climbed the ranking to reach the 16th position. This is a dramatic improvement over the years. 

Additionally, the data visualization also shows an improvement in several variables. For example, in 2006, the getting credit variable was in the red zone, with an overall score of between 0 to 25 out of 100, but through the years, a change in score can be seen. The same variable received a score between 66 to 85 out of 100 in 2020.
