How immigration changed Australia – an interactive journey through history by Guardian Australia
This interactive graphic illustrates how immigration policies and historical events – from the first world war to the Covid-19 pandemic – have changed the make-up of Australia since federation.
It uses a custom streamgraph and bar chart format to visualise two different datasets - country of birth, and net migration - which shows how different waves of migration have come from different regions in the world.
Additional context is provided with collapsible text boxes and audio players, featuring interviews with a historian and two recent migrants to Australia.
