Diversity in Indian News Media Organizations by Varun Jain

Media is often considered the fourth pillar of democracy and represents the voice of the common populous to shape the country's politics. And as for a country with vast diversity - India - the news media need to be as diverse as possible. This visualization explores the diversity (or lack thereof) among major news media houses in India.

The data for this visual is parsed from an independent survey performed by Newsfoundry, and intelligent and novel visualizations are selected to highlight the diversity (and the lack thereof) in the News Organisations. The visual is multi-layered, as it showcases the overrepresentation of a particular class of society, it explores the diversity in media representatives - finally culminating in how this lack of diversity leads to issues of minority classes being ignored and pushed back from the main narrative.
