The discovery of an asteroid the size of a small shipping truck mere days before it passed Earth highlighted a blind spot in our ability to predict those that could actually cause damage. Reuters looked at some of the closest passes by asteroids in the past and those predicted in the future. We explained the frequency of impact and potential damage that could be caused by various objects.
