Get to Know Your Judges by The Marshall Project
Get to Know Your Judges is a friendly, accessible web-based guide to judges in Cuyahoga County. These judges have incredible power. But in recent years, almost a third of voters in the county didn’t vote for any judge. The interactive judge guide includes clear information about voting deadlines and how to register, and then — alongside portrait illustrations by local illustrator John G — a list of short insights about each judge, designed to be viewable at a glance in the voting booth. Clicking on a candidate takes you to their individual candidate profile, which includes more information, including past experience, financial disclosures, contact information, and candidates' responses to our questionnaire. Crucially, the candidate cards are also all embeddable by our many news partners in Cleveland, which allowed for the largest possible distribution. The project's primary goals were clarity, ease of use, approachability, and accessibility.
