World History & Geography of Arabica Coffee Cultivars by Jeremy Yingling
The World History and Geography of Arabica Coffee Cultivars is a pair of 24x36-inch posters visualizing the genetic evolution and global spread of Arabica coffee.
The first poster, “World History and Geography of Arabica Coffee Cultivars” integrates time, geography, and biology into a single dataset, mapping cultivar relationships over centuries, tracing their movement across continents, and categorizing them by genetic origin.
The second poster, “World Dispersal and Production of Coffee” maps the spread of early wild populations, the dispersal of Typica and Bourbon cultivars, and modern production volumes by country.
By combining historical research with scientific data, these posters illustrate a new comprehensive family tree for Arabica.
The project was developed with design firm InfoNewt for client Royal Coffee and their educational program, The Crown. Content was based on intensive research by Royal Coffee’s Director of Education Chris Kornman. The visual method developed across several collaborative meetings. For art, archival botanical illustrations were restored and refined into a consistent and biologically-accurate style.
