G7 ACCUSED OF CLIMATE ‘HYPOCRISY’, TRUE OR FALSE ? by University of the Arts London
The world needs deep and rapid cuts in CO2 emissions to keep us on track for 1.5 degrees. The G7 nations represent 40 percent of the global economic activity and a quarter of the total global carbon emissions. These countries possess a significant capacity to take the lead and exert substantial influence on climate change matters.
However, there have been recent allegations of ‘hypocrisy in climate action’ leveled against the G7. Analysts argue that despite climate change being formally on the G7 agenda, it has been somewhat marginalized in their actual practices. To evaluate the actions taken by the G7 in addressing climate change, this data visualization outlines their efforts in reducing emissions and promoting clean energy development over the past decade.
Furthermore, the table analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the G7 energy transition methods for G7 policymakers, and provides them with optimized policy directions.
