F-gases matter to climate success! by Climate Interactive
The mission of Climate Interactive is to create and share tools that drive effective and equitable climate action. We make climate science accessible to inform climate policy and corporate strategies, ensuring they are grounded in the latest and most reliable scientific insights.
While the role of carbon dioxide emissions dominates climate discussions, other potent greenhouse gases are often overlooked despite their significant impact. According to Carbon Brief, super pollutants like methane and nitrous oxide are responsible for 45% of global warming to date and negatively impact public health.
In July 2024, the team used its climate model En-ROADS (co-developed with MIT Sloan) to produce an interactive insights article on the contribution of fluorinated gases (F-gases) to climate change and how F-gas emissions could be mitigated with effective climate policy and deployment of best practices. The purpose of the article was to shine a spotlight on this often overlooked contributor to climate change. The article is easy to understand and digest for those new to climate change information.
