Travels on the Wind by Natalia Kiseleva
"Travels on the Wind" is a personal data art project that encodes 10 years of my travels into a tangible piece, combining creativity, craftsmanship, and data visualization to turn memories into a physical artifact.
The project contains data about my travels, such as trip durations, destinations, companions, and transport. Over time, I transformed this concept into a physical version using custom 3D-printed rings, beads, and fishing lines. Ten vertical strands represent years, with rings encoding regions visited and personal milestones, such as a red petal for my child’s birth.
Bringing this to life was both challenging and rewarding. Designing rings, experimenting with materials like epoxy resin, and assembling the piece involved months of trial and error. The rings, mounted on fishing lines, are suspended from a driftwood branch—a nod to movement and nature.
This project reflects not just travel, but the stories and connections hidden in data. "Travels on the Wind" captures a decade of my life, transforming data into art—memories floating like leaves on the wind.
