A Toast to Lost Lives by Nid
As part of the Tangible Data Visualization course, this project delves into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, focusing on the global health impacts of alcohol consumption. Recognizing alcohol’s influence on well-being, cultural traditions, and economies, the project addresses a pressing concern: deaths directly linked to alcohol consumption.
The project transforms data into a tangible format, creating a physical representation that enhances comprehension and accessibility while reducing the limitations of digital-only visualizations. By giving data a tactile dimension, the visualization fosters an immersive and impactful experience for viewers.
Through extensive research on alcohol consumption data, sourced primarily from Our World in Data, the project uncovers alarming statistics: alcohol is a causal factor in over 200 health conditions, including injuries and diseases. Individuals with alcohol dependence are at a significantly higher risk, with the likelihood of suicide increasing tenfold compared to non-dependent individuals.
This tangible representation not only communicates the risks associated with alcohol consumption but also aims to encourage behavioral change. The innovative visualization serves as a tool for raising awareness and promoting healthier habits, aligning with the broader goals of reducing alcohol-related mortality and improving global health outcomes.
