Pigeons Ruined The Fun by MICA

Some people say pigeons are a misunderstood and unfairly vilified bird. To those people, I ask: have you ever personally witnessed a gang of pigeons harass songbirds, ignore humans, and gluttonously gobble down pounds of bird seed in seconds? Pigeons Ruined The Fun is a tribute to those songbirds and their favorite feeding spot in Logan Square, Chicago between May and June 2024.

This visualization was created as an assignment for MICA's graduate Data Visualization & Analytics MPS program, which challenged us to display self-collected data in a non-traditional and non-digital format. The piece is mixed media consisting of ripped paper, watercolor, paint stamps, and photographs.
