From Seeds to Harvest by Graphicacy

From Seeds to Harvest is a data visualization project commissioned by The Kendeda Fund to commemorate the foundation's 30-year philanthropic legacy of over $1 billion in grantmaking. The interactive digital garden, created by Graphicacy, artfully represents the breadth and diversity of impact-driven giving and highlights the journey of an anonymous "checkbook philanthropist" to a highly organized and strategic institutional fund. As plants mature and cultivate through time and seasons, the data visualization takes you through phases of giving, with each funded project represented as a plant, with height showing years of support and leaves depicting individual grants. The visualization emerged from collaborative workshops, rapid prototyping through iterative design and engineering, and features custom sound design. Originally conceived as a personal tribute, this engaging experience now serves as an inspiring resource for the philanthropic community while honoring Diana's legacy and love of nature.
The Kendeda Fund, founded by Diana Blank in 1993 through anonymous donations, has grown over 30 years into an influential and dynamic institution, disbursing more than $1 billion in grants to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, supporting projects both nationally and globally, ranging from gun violence prevention and girls' rights to work on climate change, land conservation, and economic equity.
