Talaas: A Data-Driven Visualisation into Bharatnatyam Rhythms by NMIMS School of Design
The project 'Talaas: A Data-Driven Visualisation into Bharatnatyam Rhythms' uses data visualisation to explain rhythmic patterns engagingly. It starts by introducing Talas, their origins, and their role in Carnatic music. To represent Jaatis, the project uses flower-like visuals, where the number of petals shows the increasing complexity of rhythms.
Next, the project breaks down the seven Talaas and the finger counts used by musicians, making them easy to understand. A comparison chart helps show the differences and connections between them at a glance. The final section brings together Jaati, Talas, and Rasas in a single chart, showing how rhythm, emotion, and complexity interact in Bharatnatyam. Through a mix of research and creative design, the project turns complex ideas into a simple and visually engaging format.
