Data in business often supports decision-making, but it also holds the power to foster profound human connections. By harnessing data as a creative medium, a data visualization designer can translate an organization’s mission and values into personalized, tangible artifacts. This approach bridges the gap between quantitative analysis and meaningful, human-centered experiences – sparking curiosity, deepening engagement, and inspiring lasting connections.

Our process begins with a customized survey that asks employees, customers, or stakeholders to reflect on how they embody the organization’s mission and values in their daily lives. Their responses become the foundation for unique visual narratives that showcase both shared and individual perspectives.

Our pilot initiative debuted at CannonDesign’s internal leadership conference, Elevate, where attendees received custom badges capturing personal interpretations of the firm’s Living-Centered Design Principles. These badges became conversation starters, illuminating shared values and encouraging deeper connection. As one participant noted, “Seeing my data story on the badge made me feel recognized for my unique perspective and gave me a natural reason to spark deeper conversations.” Another attendee remarked, “Seeing my survey data on a conference badge was a natural conversation starter.”

The badge aesthetic was inspired by the conference design elements: a clean style anchored by bold gradients transitioning from warm yellows and oranges into cool blues and greens. The smooth color fades create a dynamic, energetic backdrop, while minimal white typography and subtle star motifs add a touch of brightness and optimism. The result is a sleek, contemporary look that feels both uplifting and forward-thinking – perfect for a conference centered on new ideas and inspiration.

This service addresses the growing need for genuine engagement. Research consistently shows that engaged employees and stakeholders drive higher productivity, innovation, and loyalty. By personalizing core values in a visual, interactive manner, this project helps individuals see their integral role in a shared mission, strengthening morale, collaboration, and connection. It also expands the notion of data by prioritizing creativity, empathy, and relationship-building alongside traditional analytics.

Ultimately, this project merges strategic insight with creative design to underscore the transformative power of data. It proves that marks on a page can become tangible symbols of unity – igniting inspiration, celebrating individuality, and propelling organizational culture forward.
