Zoonotic Web by Liuhuaying Yang

The "Zoonotic Web" visualization, created in collaboration with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, is an integral part of the paper titled "A One Health Framework for Exploring Zoonotic Interactions Demonstrated Through a Case Study" (Nature Communications 15, 5650, 2024). This interactive project aims to communicate the key findings of the research and visually represents zoonotic interactions in Austria between 1975 and 2022.
The term "Zoonotic Web" refers to the complex and interconnected relationships between animals, humans, and the environment in the transmission of zoonotic diseases. Using a scrollytelling narrative and interactive dashboard, the visualization shows how pathogens move across these interfaces, highlighting both direct and indirect transmission pathways.
Built on the "One Health" framework, this visualization underscores the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, helping the public understand the complexities of zoonotic risks and the importance of a holistic approach to managing health threats.
