The Scale: Not Just Celsius by Regine Abos

The Scale is an interactive data visualisation tool that exposes the stark inequalities of climate change between nations. Drawing inspiration from the principle of a traditional scale, it uses robust scientific data to compare two critical dimensions: the varying levels of vulnerability countries face due to climate change, and their unequal contributions to global CO2 emissions over time. This project is particularly relevant as the climate crisis intensifies. It visualises profound imbalance, illustrating how those least responsible for the crisis are often the most affected by its devastating impacts. By making these inequalities tangible, The Scale advocates for a deeper understanding of climate justice. Such awareness is essential to ensuring that climate-vulnerable nations are fairly compensated for the loss and damage they endure—a necessary step towards addressing a crisis they had little part in creating.
