Archive of Memories by Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences
It is said that memory is the only paradise from which we cannot be banished. Yet, memories are fleeting. To preserve them, many of us surround ourselves with objects that serve as tangible reminders of the moments, places, and people that are important to us.
A souvenir from a trip may symbolize a place we never want to forget. A gift from a friend reassures us that we are loved. An heirloom passed down through generations keeps the presence of those who are no longer with us. These objects become more than just things; they are symbols of our past, our connections and our identity.
This project seeks to make the invisible visible: to give form to memories by linking them to the objects that preserve them. The objects displayed in this project are the belongings of my family: my grandmother, my mother, my sister, and myself. By uncovering the stories behind these objects, we can piece together the history of our family; not through written records, but through the things we have chosen to keep.
