The enigma of stolen bikes by Ana Muñoz

My friend Aline had her bike stolen. Twice. In a month. A feat almost as impressive as it is infuriating. And while this wasn’t the only recent robbery tale in my orbit (me, myself, I’ve been the victim of saddle theft) I try not to let anecdotal data shape my view of the city. So I did what any responsible citizen would do: I checked the numbers.

The results? Bike theft is up. Way up. But the real shocker wasn’t the trend itself. It was a question that my analysis couldn’t answer.
