Split Bill: a visual narrative of communal living by Boston University

People naturally come together to meet shared needs, whether it's navigating the intricacies of financial interdependence, finding a balance in power dynamics, dealing with time constraints, experiencing the enriching essence of love, or simply enjoying the comforting presence of companionship. This occurrence is termed mutual symbiosis.

My situation with my other roommates reflects this dynamic, as the four of us share an apartment, pooling resources to manage collective expenses. What began as a practical arrangement, sharing the burden of apartment rent, soon grown into a narrative of communal living. Our connection expanded to include shared expenses on groceries, the clinking of glasses over beverages, the food ingredients, the cooking utensils, the collective effort in maintaining cleanliness, and even the joint subscription to Netflix.
This data visualization serves as a visual representation of our connection into each other through bills. We meticulously document every shared expense and its respective allocation.
