Who is My Neta by Diagram Chasing

"Who is My Neta?" is a dashboard for India's 2024 general elections that helps voters access comprehensive information about their representatives. By combining parliamentary performance data with personal background details, we created "report cards" for incumbent MPs that show everything from their attendance and participation in debates to their educational qualifications, financial assets, and any criminal records. The tool made it easy for citizens to learn about both their current representatives and new candidates contesting in their constituency.

This was widely shared and used on both sides of the Indian political spectrum, partly as it was, to our knowledge, the first project of its kind to combine this data in such a way (Indian datasets are notoriously difficult to work with). We also came up with innovate ways to solve for unavailability of open-data, as described here: https://aman.bh/blog/2024/text-fragments

Released under an open-source license, we hoped to raise more awareness about these data sources as well as make them accessible in a way they hadn't been made before, as well as provide a foundation for future work of the kind.
