Journeys of Resilience of Refugees from Ukraine by Revisual Labs

‘Journeys of Resilience’ is an interactive story that maps the experiences of refugees from Ukraine, their challenges, needs, and support received. It traces their journeys crossing back into Ukraine—both short and long-term— detailing the locations they are travelling from, their needs, and the conditions upon return. It also showcases a range of interactive chart types that appear sequentially, while also encouraging exploration of the data. All charts, maps and highlighted numbers in the story are dynamic, updated quarterly as new data becomes available.

The project also showcases an animated 8-step scrolly map that sets the context for the rest of the story. It also includes interactive cards that highlight direct quotes from refugees, which, upon a hover interaction, reveals a map showing the distance each individual travelled.

The story is based on Data for this story is sourced primarily from IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix, a set of surveys that cover displacement patterns and needs of refugees from Ukraine. These surveys include the General Population Survey (GPS), Crossing Back Survey, and more. All of these links can be accessed through the methodology section of the story.
