One Week in Sound by Nadezda Andrianova
In this personal project, I explored my music preferences by analyzing my Yandex Music listening data from November 8 to November 14, 2024. I wanted to understand how much I listen to, which tracks I replay, and how these habits shape my musical experience. I often get captivated by certain songs, repeating them until I move on. I also examined the dominance of various genres in my collection over time.
To visualize my habits, I extracted data on track titles, artists, and durations. Each track was represented as a beam radiating from the center, organized by day, creating a timeline of my musical journey. I connected repeated tracks with lines to show my immersive experiences and highlighted my favorites, adding layers of personal significance.
I discovered I spent about eight and a half hours a week listening to music—equivalent to a full workday. I collaborated with ChatGPT to identify genres and used colors in my visual representation to reflect this diversity. I calculated the time spent on each genre, the frequency of tracks played, and the number of unique songs, revealing that rock music was the most prominent genre in my library. Ultimately, this project produced a clear and expressive visualization that captures the essence of my musical journey.
