Mapping NYC Honorary Street Names with LLM by Jessie Jiahui Han
An interactive web-based map that explores New York City’s honorary street names using LLM, revealing the histories and cultural significance behind them.
In an ever-changing world with new AI advancements emerging daily, this project serves as an experiment to explore the positive impact AI can have on data visualization. By leveraging Large Language Models (LLM), it transforms dense, text-based geospatial datasets into an interactive and engaging narrative.
The map features an AI-powered search function, allowing users to "have a conversation" with LLM to find data entries and ask additional questions, making it easier and more flexible to uncover the hidden stories behind NYC’s streets. By presenting street names as more than just labels—as reflections of community identity and cultural memory—it fosters deeper engagement with the city’s past and present.
Designed for both desktop and mobile accessibility, the interface ensures a seamless experience across devices. Imagine walking through the city, noticing a street sign, and instantly accessing its history through this app.
