    Entries

Entries should be based on data (qualitative and/or quantitative) and have visual components.

Beyond that, we welcome entries of any type, such as infographics, data journalism, maps, interactives, information art, video, animation, app, site, sculpture, or artwork. Entries can be created in any software, platform, or medium, using any type of materials.

    Topical categories

The 2024 Awards have nine categories open for submission:

    1. Arts, Entertainment & Culture
    2. Business Analytics
    3. Current Affairs & Politics
    4. Humanitarian
    5. Leisure, Games & Sport
    6. People, Language & Identity
    7. Places, Spaces & Environment
    8. Science, Technology & Health
    9. Unusual

For each submission, submitters must select at least one category where the work will be considered and may select a secondary category for consideration. If in doubt regarding the appropriate category, please reference the list of category descriptions. We may recategorize entries where recommended by the judging panel.

    Eligibility

Work created / published between September 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024 (and not previously entered or nominated into the Awards) is eligible for entry.

Entry: Each entry must be a separate piece of work. The work can be in any medium (static image, web interactive, app, even sculpture or food) and can be created using any platform or package. Multiple visualizations (charts, maps, interactives) presented in one summary product (article, dashboard, installation, etc.) would be considered to be a single piece of work for the purpose of submission. You may enter as many pieces as you like with a fee paid each time.

Creators of books, sculptures and physical objects please be aware that our judges are based around the world and there is a public voting round, so we accept submissions in digital form only. Use photos, videos or other digital media to capture the essence of your work.

Translation: If your entry is in a language other than English please submit the original language entry. Please send us a translation via email to iibawards-info@datavisualizationsociety.org. Please title the email "Submission Translation - [Title of Work]" and include your name and entry details in the body of the email. For example, if the name of your work was "History of IIB Awards", your email title would be: "Submission Translation - History of IIB Awards".

Your contact details: Please use an email that you regularly check to create your user profile. If you advance to the shortlist / are selected as a winner, we will inform you via the email you have registered on your user profile. If we are unable to reach you via your email, you may forfeit your right to the prizes and privileges afforded to winners.

Special awards: The Outstanding Studio, Impressive Individual, and Rising Star special awards will be selected by the expert judging panel from the pool of shortlisted works and their creators.

The Impactful Community Leader and Test of Time special awards will be selected by the expert judging panel from a pool of nominees, with nominations open to the public.

The Community Vote special award will be selected based on a public vote.
