The NYT's best data visualizations of the year
As we reported when the longlist went public, the superlative New York Times Graphics team was unable to take part in the awards as their editorial guidelines prevent entry to awards sponsored by commercial, political or professional associations. Nevertheless we think that the outstanding work they do deserves to be showcased.
Here are some of our favourites:
In Data Visualisation: The Yen, Won and Renminbi: A Triangular Guide to the East Asian Currency Wars
by Jeremy Ashkenas and Larry Buchanan
A great mini-viz: 3-D View of a Chart That Predicts The Economic Future: The Yield Curve
by Gregor Aisch and Amanda Cox
Which incidentally they 3D-printed:
In Interactive: the Buy Rent Calculator
by Mike Bostock, Shan Carter and Archie Tse
In Data Visualisation: The Changing Nature of Middle-Class Jobs
by Gregor Aisch and Robert Gebeloff
Infographic: Your Contribution to the California Drought
By Larry Buchanan, Josh Keller, and Haeyoun Park
In Data Journalism, a perfect example of "scrollytelling": 342,000 Swings Later, Derek Jeter Calls It a Career
By Shan Carter, Joe Ward & David Waldstein
