Arts, Entertainment & Pop Culture - anything inspired by culture high or low, including music, movies, books, art & more, such as this 2016 Bronze Award-winning work from Polygraph. 

 

Current Affairs & Politics - works on news, politics, finance & economics, like this Gold Award-winning piece by FiveThirtyEight. 

 

Environments & Maps - pieces on the natural & built environment, plus any map that doesn't fit into other categories. See Kiln's Gold Award-winning Shipmap project. 

 

Humanitarian / Global - graphics on NGOs, aid, welfare & global issues including natural or man-made disasters, like Valerio Pellegrini & Michele Mauri's Gold-Award winning work on migrants. 

 

Science & Technology - images on technology, science, medicine or health. See Will Stahl-Timmins' Award-winning work for the BMJ.

 

Sports & Games - works on the subject of sports, games & leisure activities, like this shortlisted piece by Alberto Lucas López.

 

People, Language & Identity - home to graphics on identity, drawing on personal and cultural data and the quantified self. Giorgia Lupi & Stefanie Posavec won the coveted Most Beautiful Award in 2015 for their hand-drawn project, Dear Data.

Special Awards

 

Best Non-English Language Viz 

Exceptional work presented in a language other than English, won last year by BiG for their awesome Terre Urbaine piece.

 

Best Studio

Most prolific and/or ground-breaking work from a commercial studio. Polygraph took this one home in 2016 for works including Film Dialogue.

 

Best Individual 

Ground-breaking or prolific work from a single practitioner. Moritz Stefaner earned this accolade in 2016 for works including Project Ukko. 

 

Rising Star 

Outstanding work from an up-and-coming practitioner. Nadieh Bremer took home the Rising Star Award in 2017 for works including Olympic Feathers.

 

Visitors' Vote 

Best entry as voted for by our community. See last year's community favourite by Hannah Chan-Hartley.
