What goes into an award-winning visualization? Are you figuring out what to enter into the Information is Beautiful (IIB) Awards this year? Join us live with past winners of the 2019 IIB Awards as they talk about their projects, how they chose which work to enter, and if their design process changed after winning.

Our panelists will include:
Amy Cesal is a co-founder and board member of the Data Visualization Society. Amy is a 3 time Information is Beautiful award winner and enjoys creating unusual data visualizations. She holds a Master's Degree in Information Visualization from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she is an adjunct professor. Amy has pioneered the use of data visualizations style guidelines, and writes and speaks on the topic.
Ilya Boyandin is a data visualization engineer. He has made many visualizations for media, private companies, NGOs, transportation authorities and academic institutions. In late 2020 Ilya founded GeoVisually, an interactive maps and geographic data visualization consultancy. Currently, he is helping to build the next generation geospatial analytics platform as part of the Unfolded Studio team at Foursquare. Ilya's special interest is in visualizing data about geographic movement, transportation and mobility. He is passionate about building tools which help cities to shift to sustainable mobility.
Sonja Kuijpers runs STUDIO TERP, her one-woman data illustration studio based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. She designs (data-)visualisations for a diversity of clients such as Scientific American, Philips, as well as small institutions, companies, and publishers. Experimenting with shapes and styles, she also designs her own independent dataviz and data art projects. She received an Information is Beautiful Gold Award in 2019 for her personal project ‘A View on despair’. Creating data visualisation, to Sonja, is trying to locate herself in the data, making sense of numbers with a human approach, showing insights as well as the aesthetics of information and data.
