Southern Mosaic by Aditya Jain

In 1939, ethnomusicologists John and Ruby Lomax set out on a 6,502 mile journey across the Southern United States collecting folksongs on behalf of the Library of Congress.

Using maps, music and Bloom visualizations, this interactive offers an intimate mosaic of a nation reeling from the great depression, and depicts the complexity of the origin of the Blues through themes such as race, religion and incarceration.
