Should I Test? by Renee Walker

Visual aids to help medical professionals understand the benefits, risks, and results of tests.

The guides ask in visual language: What difference will it make in the patient's life? What is the likelihood of the disease given the patient's history? And what would a positive test mean?

A warm/cold color contrast represents positive and negative results. The form of a dial is used to consider pretest probability, and two waffle charts compare the chance of a true-positive versus false-positive results based on the patient's background. An icon system helps doctors see at a glance what percentage of a test result is a true and false positive or negative.
