The Emoji Biosphere by Scientific American
This data visualization is part of a story published online by Scientific American in January 2024. It first compares the number of animal emojis, by phylum, available to use and their actual distributions in the real world, highlighting which phyla are underrepresented or overrepresented. It then illustrates how many additional emojis would need to be added to the underrepresented phyla to bring things into balance. This visualization also appeared in the March 2024 print issue of the magazine.
