What are your chances by Marcelo Duhalde
This graphic reimagines the classic Earth’s surface composition chart. Using a traditional Voronoi diagram as the base, I’ve added illustrations on top to make it intuitive and easy for children to understand.
Aesthetically, I chose an old-school, watercolor-like illustration style. I envision the world as a treasure chest, where each landscape is like a perfectly fitting puzzle piece. The little figure fishing in the middle of the ocean serves as a visual anchor, drawing attention to the entire page.
I also guided the viewer’s eye in an anticlockwise direction. If your gaze starts with the fishing person, the path follows the fishing pole and then moves upward to reveal the massive octopus head. A bit further up is a city, and next to it, a giant question mark tilts to the left, guiding the eyes toward the farmland. From there, the livestock leads the gaze downward, panel by panel, until it finally reaches the volcano in the far right corner of the grassland.
Instead of a straightforward title like "Discover Earth’s Surface Composition!", I used the concept of teleportation to spark kids’ imagination. This graphic incorporates elements of probability, surface area, and geography, and I hope it serves as both a fun and educational experience.
