Daphne Draws Data: A storytelling with data adventure by storytelling with data

Daphne Draws Data is a children's book that introduces kids to the superpowers of graphs and data storytelling through the adventures of Daphne the dragon. As she turns numbers into problem-solving pictures to help the new friends she meets, Daphne teaches kids to ask meaningful questions, explore patterns, and visualize their surroundings using bar charts, line graphs, and more—all in a fun and accessible way. The story is complemented by a graph glossary, ensuring the learning continues beyond the book.

Inspired by author Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic's passion for making data approachable for all ages, the project was shaped by insights from educators, parents, and kids themselves. Every detail, from the colorful illustrations to the hands-on graphing activities, was designed to spark curiosity and creativity, helping children build confidence by drawing data to explore their own curious questions about themselves and the world around them.
