Data-art community Flowers & Numbers by Natalia Kiseleva
I had long wanted to devote more time to Data Art but found myself stuck in endless planning. I realized Data Art bridges two worlds: offering creative practice for data-minded individuals and data tools for artists.
One day I posted an open invitation on my channel to create something based on data together. We began with a project to create data badges—portraits of our small community using survey data. These are common in data visualization events and communities.
I shared lessons, tips, and sketches to help members dive into Data Art, encouraging quick, rough drafts to avoid overthinking. Soon, we started exchanging ideas, offering feedback, and supporting each other. Together, we crafted several versions of our community’s data portraits.
The community has since tripled in size, bringing together passionate, creative individuals. Each member shares incredible contributions, knowledge, and ideas, fostering growth and collaboration.
I’m thrilled to have created this cozy Data Art corner—a space for creativity, support, and connection!
