Salary Inequity in Higher Education by MiHyun Kim
In 2023, Texas State University initiated a study on faculty salary trends, comparing them to national medians and peer institutions. As a faculty senate fellow, I created data visualizations to explore salary compression, inversion, and their impacts, highlighting inequities that affect job satisfaction, morale, and retention, especially among marginalized groups. The project, based on a faculty survey of 145 participants, identified key themes such as inflation, salary compression, and inequity. By visualizing this data, the project aims to promote dialogue on salary equity, fostering transparency and a more inclusive academic environment.
