SocialMap: Brazil's Public Data on Education, Health and Security in one place by Cluster

SocialMap is an interactive platform that aggregates public data on education, health, and security in Brazil in one accessible place. Designed for both policymakers and the general public, it transforms complex datasets into clear, engaging visualizations, making it easier to explore and understand key social indicators.

This project presented several significant challenges, such as:

- Organizing a large volume of data that was scattered across multiple databases into an interactive interface while delving into the various concepts and indicators across different themes (Education, Health, Security).
- Serving different audiences, ranging from the general public to policymakers and specialized journalists.
- Enabling users to access data at their desired geographic level (national, state, or municipal) while handling different data availabilities depending on the source (for example, not all data was available at the municipal level).
- Ensuring SocialMap was fully responsive to facilitate information access for a wide range of users, regardless of their device.

We successfully achieved these goals thanks to a highly skilled and complementary team, leveraging cutting-edge data visualization techniques, a robust technological foundation, and a strong focus on user experience. We applied principles such as progressive disclosure, ensuring users can access relevant insights progressively as they navigate the platform.

The project was developed and is hosted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) in partnership with Cluster, a Brazilian company specializing in data visualization. Cluster was responsible for the entire visual design process, from conception to implementation. The platform was designed in Figma and built using React, seamlessly integrating with data hosted in Qlik.
