Falling through the Fabric of Family by National Institute of Design

Child abandonment is a pressing issue that continues to impact societies worldwide, and India is no exception. This Gigamap presents a systemic study conducted to comprehend the complex dynamics surrounding India's child abandonment crisis, with a particular focus on its implications for fostering an inclusive and resilient society. We the students of NID Bangalore aimed to shed light on the challenges caused by abandonment and propose strategies to address this crisis effectively. The infographic delves into the multifaceted causes of child abandonment in India. Key factors include economic hardships, social stigmas, lack of access to healthcare and education, and inadequate support systems. By understanding these root causes, we can develop comprehensive solutions that tackle the problem at its core. To address the child abandonment crisis, a holistic approach that encompasses various stakeholders is essential. The study highlights the importance of collaborative efforts involving government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), communities, and individuals. By fostering strong partnerships and encouraging community involvement, we can create a supportive environment that empowers families and helps prevent child abandonment. Over the span of 8 weeks, we researched, compiled, analysed and created a visual metaphor of narrating the act of abandonment equivalent to falling through the fabric of family. The hand-drawn illustrations offer a visual crutch to impact the users about the dire situation & the emotional element too.
In conclusion, this systemic study and infographic Gigamap presents a systemic analysis of India's child abandonment crisis, aiming to foster an inclusive and resilient society. By comprehending the root causes, promoting awareness, and strengthening social welfare systems, we can create a supportive environment that nurtures and protects abandoned children. The findings of this study have far-reaching implications for policymakers, NGOs, communities, and individuals invested in creating a society where every child's rights and well-being are valued and protected.
